This guide covers how the goods are classified, what drives the price, and what to check before you order a container.

HS classification in plain terms

Film faced plywood is classified in heading 4412 (plywood, veneered panels and similar laminated wood). Within 4412 the sub-heading depends on the outer ply surface material:

4412.33 – at least one outer ply of tropical wood (e.g. okoume, bintangor, poplar in some origins).

4412.34 – other plywood with at least one outer ply of non-coniferous wood.

4412.39 – other, when neither of the above applies.

Which sub-heading applies to a given board depends on the face veneer species used by the mill, and that varies by origin. Duties and VAT differ between the sub-headings in some markets, so confirm the code with your customs broker before the first shipment – do not rely on a supplier’s invoice alone.

What drives shuttering plywood price

Core species and glue – poplar, eucalyptus, combi cores; phenolic (WBP-type) glue is the norm for film faced board.

Film weight – the phenolic film is quoted in g/m²; heavier film means more reuses, higher unit price.

Thickness and sheet size – 18 mm at 1830 × 915 mm is the workhorse for formwork; other sizes are cut to order.

Reputation for reuse count – the real economy of formwork ply is reuses per sheet, not the first invoice price.

The KaiVoy range

Commercial plywood 12 mm – interior/packing grade base board.

Black film faced plywood 15 mm and 18 mm – the standard formwork panels.

Film faced / fair-faced formwork 18 mm – for exposed concrete finishes.

Shuttering plywood 18 mm (1830 × 915) – the export workhorse size.

Red board / bare wood plywood 15 mm – uncovered face for non-formwork use.

Before you order

Confirm sheet size and tolerance in the contract, not just thickness.

State the glue class and film spec you expect; ask for a sample panel photo of the edge.

Ask what reuse count the mill warrants for your pour conditions – that is the number to compare prices on.

Packing: bundles strapped and edge-protected for container transport.

Send KaiVoy your spec and we quote by thickness, size and destination port.

Film faced plywood – also called shuttering plywood or formwork plywood – is the single biggest repeating purchase on most concrete jobs, and it is also the product most often mis-coded at customs.
