One shank does the loosening that a bucket would otherwise do with repeated scrapes, which is why groundworks crews rip first and dig second. KaiVoy builds three sizes, one per coupler class, so the ripper grows with the carrier.

The three models at a glance

Model

Working width

Weight

Mount

FR1-S30-180

180 mm (7 in)

31.5 kg

S30-180

FR2-S40

–

49 kg

S40

FR3-S45

–

98 kg

S45

Where a ripper earns its place

Compacted sub-base and hardpan – one rip pass opens the seam a digging bucket then follows; see the digging vs grading bucket guide for how the two tools sequence.

Asphalt edges – lifting the edge of a failed tarmac run before a patch crew arrives.

Roots and stumps – landscaping work where a bucket would just push the root ball around instead of cutting under it.

Scarifying gravel tracks – breaking the sealed surface so it can be regraded.

Choosing by machine class, not by appetite

The three models map one-to-one onto the coupler classes: S30-180 for 1 – 2 t mini excavators, S40 for the 3.5 – 6 t class, S45 for 8 t machines. Weight is the honest selector – a 31.5 kg shank is plenty for a 1.5 t machine at full reach, and hanging a 98 kg FR3 on it would make the front end nose-heavy before the point even bites. If your hitch is not S-series, the coupler adapter or a built-to-pattern mount is the fix.

FAQ

Can I rip and dig with the same machine in one session?

Yes – that is the normal workflow. Rip the run, swap to the digging bucket on the same coupler, and open the loosened seam in half the passes.

Is the shank replaceable?

Yes, the shank point is a hardened replaceable part; wear plates sit in the zones that take the abrasion. Tell us the ground type when you order and we confirm the point spec.

What does a ripper cost?

Request a quote – Prices follow the model and order quantity – send the machine class and we quote the matching FR model FOB.

A ripper / scarifier breaks compacted ground, asphalt and root-bound soil ahead of digging or grading.
