KaiVoy builds log grapple in three jaw philosophies, and picking the wrong one is the difference between a load held and a load dropped. The rule: match the jaw set to the shape of the material, then match the headstock to the machine. Every model runs on one auxiliary hydraulic circuit, with a fixed or rotating head confirmed at order.
Jaw layouts and what they grip
| Layout | Models | Best at |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical five-claw | 5016, 5114 | Lowered over standing poles, posts and trunks; claws close around the object’s own axis |
| Four tines, single plane | 6013 four-tooth | Narrow enough mouth to pick a single trunk, wide enough for a bundle of branches; four points stop cut ends spinning on the swing |
| Five tines | 6013, 6015 | Denser mixed timber where one more point of contact beats mouth width |
| 2+3 staggered | 6015 two-plus-three | Irregular timber – the three tines pass between the two opposite, so off-cylinder loads sit steadier |
| Clamshell | clamshell grapple | Loose material – wet spoil, sand, gravel, dredged silt – that would fall between tines |
The 6019 and 6112 bodies carry the same head options for larger carriers; the model list is on the attachment specifications page.
Mounting: the part that actually decides the order
- Headstock is machined to your pin diameter and centre distance – send the measurements with the enquiry instead of discovering the mismatch at the port.
- Fixed or rotating head: rotating needs one auxiliary circuit and pays for itself the first day you sort timber on the ground; fixed is the honest choice for repeat lifts in one orientation.
- Carrier class: matched to your machine tonnage – the jaws are the visible part, but the headstock and pin size carry the load.
FAQ
Vertical claws or horizontal jaws for firewood?
For cut timber lying in a pile, horizontal tines (6013 / 6015 family). The vertical five-claw exists for poles and posts that stand or hang – a pile of firewood gives it nothing to close around.
Can one grapple do logs and gravel?
No. Tines grip cylinders; shells enclose loose material. Sites that handle both order the tine grapple and the clamshell as a pair.
How do I order to my machine?
